Grand Final Report

Many congratulations to Mexarts for winning the Tianjin Futsal Spring Season League in 2013. Unfortunately the result was mired in controversial circumstances. But more on that in a bit.

The day was split into two halfs. The bottom half finals, and the top half finals. Emka and Millionlink had very friendly and good natured dual for last place with Emka finally falling to stronger Millionlink team.

A tougher match was for 5th/6th place, with the Korean Elim Church team looking to make amends for just missing out on the finals against Chinese Utd. Elim Church ended up far too strong for a Chinese Utd team who put up a spirited fight but were no match for the well organized and high powered Korean side.

Then it was onto the consolation final between Off in the Woods and the Vikings. Both teams could consider themselves unlucky not to be in the Grand Final itself. The Vikings having missed out by one goal in the semi finals, and Off in the Woods being beaten by the team that they had destroyed only the week previously. Both Off in the Woods and the Vikings were well organized. Off in the Woods had the advantage of youth, the Vikings had the advantage of experience and numbers. At half time it was 1-1, with both teams conceding lucky goals. In the second half the Vikings took a 2-1 lead, and with their superior defence and numbers appeared to have the game in hand. With the game opening up as Off in the Woods taking more chances, the Vikings should have sealed the game, but three quick goals, including two cracking left foot goals from the league's Golden Boot, sealed the game for Off in the Woods.

The last game of the day was the Grand Final between Kings Club and Mexarts. Both teams deservedly in the finals having been the best two teams over the season. In a very close and quite physical game the scores were tied 1-1 at half time, with King's Club scoring possibly the goal of the season, an absolute bullet of a shot from near the half way line. After half time however the superior organization of Mexarts began to show through with Mexarts scoring three quick goals... and that is where all hell broke loose.

A fight started with King's Club members being apparently upset with several Mexarts players. The game had to be called off, and after everything calmed down, Mexarts were granted the victory 4-1 as they had been leading after half the game had been completed. The video camera and footage is now being analyzed by King's Club players which means there are no video highlights for this week. When King's Club return the video I will upload the highlights of all games up onto the website.
